Oregon

I had to write a personal essay for school a while back and I thought I'd share it with you because I didnt know what else to post!

If I could choose one place on the earth that embodied my character more than anywhere else, it would Oregon.  Why would I be Oregon? My answer to that is simple.  Oregon is sometimes overlooked because it lacks a distinguishing characteristic that sets it above other areas, and yet it also contains a redeeming diversity which makes it unlike anywhere else.
One similarity between Oregon and myself is our absence of one consequential, defining characteristic. Oregon doesn’t have the nicest weather or the sandiest beaches; likewise, I might not be the most agile volleyball player or the most loyal friend. True, I may be an athlete and honor-roll student, but there are people who far exceed me both athletically and academically. Similarly, Oregon has both mountains and rivers, but neither of these are considered the most breathtaking or exotic. However, Oregon does hold one record; More hazelnuts are grown in Oregon than anywhere else in the United States.  This fact might be overlooked by some and inconsequential to others, but I have hope that I possess what it takes to be better than anyone else at something, no matter how insignificant it might seem.
Despite the lack of an unrivaled distinction, hope is still in reach for Oregon and also myself; for I have what many people lack: hard work and a well rounded palate of abilities.  Unlike some of the more popular areas of the world, Oregon has a full range of weather patterns and terrains.  Mountains, deserts, forests, and rivers all reside in this one, sometimes forgotten state.  My character resembles Oregon and its wide range of attractions because I have spent my life endeavoring to succeed in more areas than one.  My years in piano, softball, scuba diving and volleyball without overwhelming recognition have not been signs of failure; instead, the time I have dedicated to these activities has rewarded me in ways I did not expect.  Theses activities have taught me hard work, patience and perseverance. No matter what goal I aim to tackle next, I will always bring these character qualities with me.  My diverse interests and the skills I have learned because of them set me apart. I am unique and I don’t need a trophy to prove it.
The state motto of Oregon is “She Flies With Her Own Wings,” and that is exactly what I intend to do.  I have been given talents and abilities unlike anyone else, and even when I am not the smartest, fastest, or friendliest, giving up is not an option.  I, like Oregon, may not currently contain any single paramount feature, but I am willing to work hard and use my resourcefulness to make every aspect of my life the best it can possibly be.

Soundtrack

Why do we like the music we like?
Is it only the words? Is it only the music?
What makes the two combine?

I was thinking about music this morning.  Its the strangest feeling when a song can make you think or feel a certain way when the words don't really even reflect that emotion.  Anyways, I decided I should make a soundtrack to my life and so your job is to do the same in my comments box :) SO! Here we go. The first part is the feeling/place/emotion, and the second part is the song that makes you think of that mood. But it has to describe the way YOU feel about that place, not just some song that fits. The lyrics may or may not be similar to the thing being described.

So here's the soundtrack of my life:

1. Nighttime in the city- Drown- Smashing Pumpkins
2. Alone Konstantine- Something Corporate
3.With someone you love- Instant Gratification- People in Planes
4. Ready to get out  Supermassive Black Hole- Muse
5. Out with Friends The Ballad of Michael Valentine- The Killers
6. Youth Friday I'm in Love- The Cure
7. In the Car Wheel in the Sky- Journey
8. Rain The Leaving Song- AFI
9. Spring    Happy Phantom- Tori Amos
10. Summer  Four Winds- Bright Eyes
11. Regret Never Think- Rob Pattinson
12. Determination Bolero- Moulin Rouge Soundtrack (if you're going to listen to one, listen to this one  )

Your turn!

(by the way, sorry about the language in a few. Oops!)

Non-Drowsy

I've been sick the last few days.
I never thought it would be so hard to find cold medicine that induces sleep. BUT all my medicine is non-drowsy, and so I can't sleep.  Not that the medicine keeps me awake, I just can't sleep anyways while being sick.

Thats it! The search is over. I've found the most beautiful woman in the world.
and she's 43.
Its' Gong Li, and she plays Hatsumomo in Memoirs of a Geisha.
Wow.

Of course I've already found the most beautiful man in the world. He's in my xanga layout :)

Don't really have anything to say. But check this out

pout.

Well, I was going to pout and not write a new blog until I had at least 2 views on my last one. But i got tired of waiting.  So... I'll just write to myself!

School starts again tomorrow. I'm not really going to talk about that because I dont feel like smashing my fist through the monitor.

I've been reading a lot over break. Anyone read Wuthering Heights or The Picture of Dorian Grey?
